Itineraries
Day 1
Respective Destinations to New Delhi
You arrive in New Delhi. We meet you at your port of arrival and escort you to the hotel for an overnight halt.
Day 2
New Delhi to Dehradun
We checkout of the hotel early morning and depart for the railway station to board the Shatabdi Express, departing from Delhi at 0600 Hrs to Dehradun.
We arrive in Dehradun by 1200 Hrs and check into the hotel for an overnight halt.
Day 3
Dehradun to Ukhimath
With an early morning checkout from the hotel in Dehradun, we head out to Ukhimath by road. This will be a long journey as the road conditions are unpredictable with the widening works being carried out by the Govt.
We arrive in Ukhimath by evening and check into the homestay, which will the basecamp for the duration of the tour.
p.s. Keep your cameras handy as there are plenty of stops that offer some excellent birding opportunities.
Day 4
In and around Ukhimath
We start the day with a sumptuous breakfast and depart for bird photography and bird watching.
The entire session will be along the roadside since the entire area is a hotspot for birding. We may get lucky on our first day with the sighting of the elusive Himalayan Monal, one of the most beautiful birds in the Indian subcontinent.
Expect to spot Lammergeiers, Himalayan Griffons, Buzzards, Khaleej Pheasants, Eurasian Jays, and a plethora of Woodpeckers and passerine birds which reside in the high altitude, like the Striated Laughing thrush, Blacklore tit, and more.
Day 5
Ukhimath to Tungnath and back
We start the day early and head out to the start point of the Tungnath Trek. The uphill trek will take us through a thicket of rhododendron and oak trees that offer perfect perches for the birds. Expect to spot Koklass Pheasant, Kalij Pheasant, Golden Eagle, Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier), Upland Buzzard, Himalayan Owl, Spot-winged Rosefinch, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, European Goldfinch, Ashy Wood-Pigeon, Fire-capped Tit, Spotted Laughingthrush, Variegated Laughingthrush, Nepal Wren-Babbler, Pied Thrush, Long-billed Thrush, Scarlet Finch, Spot-winged Grosbeak, Golden Bush-Robin, White-browed Bush-Robin, Coal Tit, Fire-fronted Serin, Spot-winged Starling, Himalayan Beautiful Rosefinch and Yellow-rumped Honeyguide.
Expect snowy conditions and the entire trek will be on a snow-lined path. We advise that all participants carry crampons to walk as they offer the much-needed grip and traction for a safe walk.
Day 6
Ukhimath to dehradun
We depart after breakfast and head back to Dehradun.
We will take a different route to return, giving us ample opportunity and locations for birding along the way.
We will arrive in Dehradun by late evening and check into a hotel for the last night's halt of the tour.
Dinner will be an inhouse affair.
Day 7
Dehradun to New Delhi and onwards
We depart from Dehradun by train and board the Jan Shatabdi Express, departing at 0500 Hrs and arrive in New Delhi by 1130 Hrs.
We will bid you farewell as you depart for your onward journeys.
